Gunther’s WWE Title Pursuit Takes Unexpected Turn On SmackDown As New Challenger Emerges
WWE continued its European Tour following last weekend’s Clash in Italy, with its penultimate stop being the Unipol Arena in Bologna, Italy, which served as the home for Friday Night SmackDown tonight.
The Undisputed WWE Championship was defended at Clash in Italy as Cody Rhodes defeated Guther in their opening match of the night. The match ended in controversy after Gunther seemingly had his foot under the rope while Rhodes pinned him.
The ending of the match left everyone confused, and Gunther seemed livid with the referee after the match ended. He interrupted Michael Cole on commentary as he welcomed the fans to the show.
The Ring General was angry with what happened last week and held the show hostage till he got his rematch for the Undisputed WWE Champion. Just as he was talking, Cody Rhodes came out to the ring to address the situation.
WWE SmackDown was off to a chaotic start tonight
He claimed that instead of whining about the finish, Gunther should be rolling with the punches. He agreed that The Ring General deserves to get a rematch for the title, but before they could go further, they were interrupted by Sami Zayn.
Zayn spoke about his World Championship title shot, but Rhodes reminded him that he’s busy with Guther currently, before the Career Killer took advantage of their argument and attacked Rhodes from behind, sending him into Zayn.
He then grabbed Cody into a Sleeper Hold, but Sami attacked Gunther, and they brawled to the outside, where Rhodes tried to hit a suicide dive on the Ring General, but he pulled Zayn into his place.
Gunther walked off from there before Rhodes apologized to Sami and offered him his hand, but the former United States Champion refused to take his help.
