Former WWE Champion Officially Retires At 42
An ex-WWE Champion has bid adieu to in-ring competition.
JDC, fka Fandango, competed in his retirement match at TNA Genesis on January 17. At the pay-per-view, his opponent was his ‘The System’ stablemate and decade-long friend, Eddie Edwards.
During the November 13, 2025, episode of TNA, the 42-year-old officially announced that he was stepping away from wrestling. At the time, he was surrounded by his stablemates, whom he thanked for their support throughout the years.
At Genesis, he made his entrance alongside Edwards, who were joined by Alisha Edwards and Moose, too. A teary-eyed JDC showed his tattoo of the late Windham Rotunda, who portrayed Bray Wyatt in WWE.
The match featured a mix of offensive maneuvers and submission holds; at one point, JDC applied the Walls of Jericho and hit the Codebreaker on his opponent as a tribute to his former rival, Chris Jericho.
In the closing minutes, JDC sat on the mat, encouraging his friend to hit the killshot. Edwards obliged and put him away with the “Boston Knee Party.”
After the match, he was joined by his stablemates as well as other members of the roster and staff.
JDC Secured An Upset Win Against Chris Jericho At WWE WrestleMania 29
Before being signed by WWE in 2006, JDC competed in the independent circuit.
He made his NXT debut in 2010, where he spent the next two years. In 2013, his character was repackaged before his debut on SmackDown.
He arrived on the main roster as Fandango, a ballroom dancer, with Summer Rae as his valet.
Despite making his first appearance, he refused to compete in several matches because the commentators could not get his name right.
He crossed paths with Chris Jericho, who made fun of his name, too, kick-starting their feud.
Their match was finalized for WWE WrestleMania 29, where Fandango secured the biggest win of his wrestling career.
He subsequently spent most of his time wrestling as a midcarder and returned to NXT in 2018. In August, he, along with Tyler Breeze, defeated Imperium to win the NXT Tag Team Championship, which would be his only title in the promotion.
