Finn Balor was destined for major things in NXT UK.
Former WWE NXT Champion and current Monday Night RAW star, Finn Balor made just three appearances in NXT UK, however, that wasn’t the original plan for Irishman.
When speaking with InsideTheRopes’ Kenny McIntosh, Balor explained how there were indeed bigger things planned for him in the reportedly defunct brand, including a match against former longtime NXT UK Champion and current Intercontinental Champion, Gunther (FKA WALTER):
“Yeah, the idea with NXT UK was to get to Finn vs. WALTER. Now it looks like we could, and that’s what we were working towards and obviously, COVID put a stop to that. But you know, that match can still happen now, whether it’s Raw or SmackDown, or possibly NXT Europe. It’s something that I’ve already expressed to the boss that I’m very eager to be involved in. And you know, if the opportunity arises, I’ll be there at NXT Europe.”
NXT UK held its final episode, this past Thursday night and the brand will fully wrap up, this weekend at NXT: Worlds Collide when Tyler Bate, Meiko Satomura, and Josh Briggs & Brooks Jensen will defend their titles in unification matches.
It was recently reported that NXT UK would be dissolving and rebranding as NXT Europe, sometime in 2023.
Meanwhile, Finn Balor is set to team up with The Judgment Day stablemate, Damian Priest against a pair of legends in the form of WWE Hall of Famer, Edge and Rey Mysterio at the Clash At The Castle premium live event, this weekend.
WWE Clash At The Castle takes place on Saturday, September 3, beginning at 1:00 p.m. EDT/10:00 a.m. PDT/6:00 p.m. BST, while NXT: Worlds Collide goes down on Sunday, September 4, beginning at 4:00 p.m. EDT/1:00 p.m. PDT/9:00 p.m. BST.
