Expected WWE Signing Becomes Free Agent
There could be movement in the coming days over the future of a major free agent as both WWE and AEW battle for their signature.
On February 11th, David Finlay competed in a singles match for New Japan Pro Wrestling against Callum Newman. After the bout, he seemingly bid goodbye to the promotion by bowing to the crowd, hugging NJPW booker Gedo, and kissing the NJPW logo.
During his time in NJPW, Finlay became a 2-time IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion, including winning the inaugural title. He also won the IWGP Tag Team Championship once with AEW’s Juice Robinson. He also became the leader of Bullet Club and its splinter group, War Dogs. But now his time in NJPW is over.
David Finlay Free To Join WWE?
Fightful Select has reported that David Finlay is now officially a free agent and free to sign elsewhere. However, it is noted that NJPW have not given up on re-signing the star and is actively trying to do so.
Many fans expect Finlay to appear in WWE, given that his brother, Uriah Connors, is currently a part of the NXT brand, and his father, Fit Finlay, is a Performance Center coach and NXT producer. Connors has recently joined a group of multi-generational stars in NXT, including Arianna Grace, Lexis King, and Charlie Dempsey, and has teased that another piece of that puzzle is yet to fall into place. That could well open the door for David Finlay’s arrival. WWE has held talks with Finlay about signing.
A less likely option could see Finlay follow Clark Connors to AEW to reignite the War Dogs faction in Tony Khan’s company.
