A former WWE wrestler has confirmed retirement from their in-ring career.

Muhammad Hassan debuted in the Stamford-based company in 2004 as part of the Raw roster.

He and his manager, Daivari, were viewed with hostility by the audience due to anti-American promos. Over the period, he managed to win against popular names such as Jerry Lawler, The Hurricane, Chris Benoit, and Chris Jericho.

Hassan had collected so much heat that at the 2005 Royal Rumble, as many as eight wrestlers ganged up on him before he was eliminated.

He was drafted to SmackDown in June, where he picked up a feud with The Undertaker. General Manager Theodore Long even named him the #1 Contender for Taker’s title at the Great American Bash.

On the July 4 SmackDown, he booked Daivari against The Phenom. The match was interrupted by five men in ski-masks, who beat and choked Taker out. The London bombings took place soon after, attracting more controversy.

There were even reports that the broadcast television network at the time, UPN, told WWE to cut down his appearances, effectively deleting him from the brand. He was released from his contract in September.

In a separate interview, Hassan revealed that he was set to receive a major push that would see him win the World Heavyweight Championship from Batista at SummerSlam.

Years after his release from WWE, Muhammad Hassan, real name Marc Copani, competed in the independent circuit in April 2018 when he appeared at the Dynasty King of Thrones event.

In June, he defeated Bin Hamin to become the Dynasty Heavyweight Champion. Shortly after, he vacated the title. He called the curtains in his wrestling career in 2019.

During a recent appearance on Wrestling Life With Ben Veal, Hassan revealed that he currently works as a school principal in New York.

When asked if he would wrestle again, he kept the answer short.

No, I don’t think so. I can lift weights and run in a straight line. Anything that deviates from that – I’m sore for weeks.
