One of Ronda Rousey’s best friends is very excited about the former WWE Champion’s return to MMA.

After a decade away from the Mixed Martial Arts world, Ronda Rousey is stepping back into the cage.

It was announced this week that Ronda Rousey will face fellow women’s MMA pioneer Gina Carano on May 16, 2026, at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles. The fight will air on Netflix.

This fight will mark the MMA return for both women, with Rousey making her return to the octagon nearly a decade later and Carano nearly 17 years after her last fight. The event is hosted by Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), the organization co-founded by Jake Paul.

While Rousey says that this may be her last official MMA fight, she is open to doing more fights depending on how this one goes.

Over the last decade, Rousey has had two separate runs in WWE, during which she became the Women’s Champion, and she’s also given birth to two children.

AEW’s Marina Shafir Will Be At Ronda Rousey’s Netflix Flight

One reason Ronda Rousey entered WWE in 2018 is because of her close relationship with her Four Horsewomen friends, which includes former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Shayna Baszler, Jessamyn Duke, and Marina Shafir, who works for AEW.

During an interview with Busted Open Radio, AEW’s Death Rider member Marina Shafir spoke excitedly about Rousey’s MMA return.

“Oh my God, I’m so excited for her. This is visceral for her. In a non-gay way, I have gotten really hard ni**les for her.

I’m just very excited for her because she has — you guys just have no f**king idea what people go through, and for her to be doing the thing that she loves, so wholeheartedly and so passionately, I’m just so excited. I’m really f**king excited to see what happens, what’s to come. I’m really excited to be there actually too.” (h/T Fightful)

Following Rousey’s WWE career, the last three matches she had in pro wrestling were tag matches with Marina Shafir. The last match was in Ring of Honor, which is owned by AEW’s Tony Khan. Rousey has shown no interest in returning to wrestling.
