Ex-WWE Champion Says The Risk That Got Them Fired Was “Worth It”
A former champion in WWE admits that getting fired by the company was worth it.
One of the most surprising WWE releases of the 2020s decade was in December 2022, when the former NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose was fired.
At the time, Rose had been in WWE for about seven years and had an incredible 413-day reign as the NXT Women’s Champion, who led the Toxic Attraction group with Jacy Jayne and Gigi Dolin.
When discussing her surprising December 2022 release with actor Nick Turturro of Prince St. Pizza, Mandy Rose (real name Amanda Saccomanno) said WWE let her go for a breach of contract because she was running a subscription service to try to make more money.
Mandy: “They don’t really let you do anything besides under their contract. Kind of like, they tend to own you. That’s just how they are.”
Nick: “So you were doing something else?”
Mandy: “Yeah it was just something, I was doing a subscription-based platform that I was doing. Like nothing bad or anything. But I was making some extra money on the side. I don’t know if you know, you’re like 1099 in WWE, you don’t really get a pension, you don’t really get a 401 k.”
Nick: “There’s no pension?”
Mandy: “No. And sometimes you don’t get paid as much as people think you do. I was kinda just like setting myself up. I was taking a little bit of a risk, but at the time, you know, the worst thing that could happen is like what, a slap on the wrist, and tell me to take it down or whatever, which I thought that’s what they were gonna do. But they ended up stripping my title.”
Mandy Rose Feels Getting Fired By WWE Was Worth It
One day after losing the NXT Title to Roxanne Perez in December 2022, Rose was fired by WWE. Turturro followed up on that.
Nick: “Was it worth it?”
Mandy: “Yeah it was yeah. Because what I’m doing now, and the money, financially what I’ve made since being out of there is really…significantly higher.”
As she continued, Rose said that she didn’t expect it to end that way, but she can do these other things, and it’s a blessing. Rose said it ended up working out for her.
In multiple interviews since departing WWE, the former Mandy Rose has stated that she’s been making “life-changing money” on a subscription-based service since the company fired her.
