Ex-World Champion Punches Ticket To WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event
Drew McIntyre was crowned the new Undisputed WWE Champion last week after he managed to defeat Cody Rhodes in a brutal Three Stages of Hell match on Friday Night SmackDown.
He is set to defend his title for the first time in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, at the Royal Rumble PLE. Nick Aldis announced four qualifying matches to determine his number one contender last week.
Randy Orton became the first person to advance to the number one contender’s match earlier in the night, and Trick Williams faced Matt Cardona in the second tournament match of the night.
Trick Williams defeats Matt Cardona on WWE SmackDown
This was a huge opportunity for both Trick and Cardona as both of them look to make their presence known on the brand, shortly after making their debuts. Trick officially became a member of the brand last week, while Matt Cardona made his return to WWE this year.
The former NXT Champion dominated much of the early proceedings of the match, but Matt turned things around for himself eventually. He looked to end things with a Rough Ryder, but Trick evaded the move and was met with a huge tackle.
Trick caught Matt out of nowhere with that tackle and followed that up with a Trick Shot to get the win and punch his ticket to the number one contender’s match. He was then attacked by Kit Wilson after the match as he looked to make his way back to the ring.
