Ex-Star Gets Candid On Quitting WWE: “I’d Had Enough”
A former WWE star opened up about quitting the company.
Kevin Fertig wrestled for the WWE under two different names. During his first run in the company, he was known by the name Mordecai. However, his gimmick was widely criticized and was even named Worst Gimmick by Wrestling Observer Newsletter in 2004.
He made his return to WWE under the new ECW brand under the ring name Kevin Thorn. This time, Kevin failed to get over with the fans due to his controversial vampire gimmick. Eventually, he was moved back to Ohio Valley Wrestling before he left the company and returned to the independent scene where he has been competing for several years.
Kevin Fertig had enough with WWE and decided to quit
During a recent interview with Socal Val of WrestlingNewsCo, Kevin Fertig opened up about quitting WWE. He revealed that he quit in Baltimore after walking into John Laurinitis’ office. He had had enough with the sports entertainment juggernaut and was frustrated about his booking after working hard to comeback from hip surgery.
“I pretty much wanted in and quit in Baltimore. Not a lot of people know that. I went into Johnny’s office and said I’d had enough and stuff, because I was, you know, working with Freddie Prinze Jr., you know, Dusty down in, you know, FCW. And basically, man, I just, in Baltimore, I saw that it wasn’t gonna happen because all that went on, and I was like, I worked my a** off to get back within X amount of time. I did all this stuff, and then now here we are again. And I, you know, out of frustration and everything else, went in and asked for my release.”
Kevin Fertig further noted that he didn’t get his WWE release for another 90 days. During this time, he was drug tested every other week.
“Of course, I didn’t get it for another 90 days. You know, they sent me home for 90 days and basically had me drug tested every other week during that time to, I guess, get their money back. I don’t know,” said Kevin Fertig.
Kevin Fertig could’ve been a solid mid card worker had he been properly booked by WWE.
