A former wrestler hated WWE for many years, but then their life changed for the better.

Kevin Fertig is a former WWE superstar who played several characters in the 2000s. Mordecai was a brief character on SmackDown in 2004, appearing for only a few months.

There were hopes on WWE’s side that Mordecai could be built up as a future heel opponent of The Undertaker, which could have led to a WrestleMania match at some point, but obviously didn’t happen.

After Mordecai died as a character, Fertig returned as Kevin Thorn on the relaunched ECW brand in June 2006, which lasted for a couple of years, although he never got a substantial push in that role. Thorn was a vampire character with Ariel (Shelly Martinez) as his valet.

After WWE, Fertig wrestled as other characters as well, but he is known mostly for Mordecai and Thorn.

The Former Mordecai Hated WWE, But Admits They Saved His Life

During an interview on The Velvet Ropes on WrestlingNews.co, the former Mordecai admitted that he had a lot of anger towards WWE. That changed when he entered the rehab program that WWE has available for all former wrestlers, and it saved his life.

“I spent probably 15 years pi**ed off, hated WWE, depressed and all this stuff. I made a phone call to them, and I went in the rehab program, and they saved my life.

So everything with that is, as much as I hate them, as much resentment as I had for them, they saved my life, and I wouldn’t be here today.

A lot of it was me, and I’ve come to figure that out, and I’m a lot better off from that. They sent me, got me cleaned up and got me back better than I ever have been.”

It’s great to see that the former Mordecai is doing well even though his WWE career may not have been as productive as he wanted.
