Current AEW Champion Shares Photo With Edge

Adam Copeland

A current championship wrestler in AEW has shared a photo with Edge that could fuel speculation about the future.

Tonight’s episode of WWE Friday Night Smackdown from Toronto is a big one, especially for WWE Hall of Famer Edge. It’s a show in the Rated R Superstar’s hometown that will celebrate the start of his WWE career 25 years ago.

For the first time ever, Edge will face Sheamus on tonight’s episode of Smackdown. It was a match that was set up last week on Smackdown when the WWE Hall of Famer told the story that Sheamus was a good friend of his, but they never got to wrestle before, so Edge wanted to face him in Toronto. Sheamus agreed to it.

Going into tonight’s match, the 49-year-old whose real name is Adam Copeland (he turns 50 in October) shared publicly that this is his last match under his current WWE contract.

“Here’s what I can honestly say, and this isn’t the answer everyone wants. I truly don’t know. I really really, with 100% truth can say I don’t know.”

“That’s strange for me, but I don’t. I really don’t. I’ve put some thought into it, but not a lot. This is the last match on my current contract. I don’t know. I honestly don’t know.”

As you would expect, this has led to a lot of internet speculation about how this could be Edge’s last match ever, how he could possibly re-sign a new deal with WWE or perhaps wrestle somewhere else.

Dax Harwood Shares Photo With Edge & Beth Phoenix

When it comes to “somewhere else” in pro wrestling, All Elite Wrestling is the most obvious option. Copeland’s best friend Christian Cage works in AEW (holding the TNT Title that actually belongs to Luchasaurus) while his good friends from the FTR tag team of Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler are there as the current AEW Tag Team Champions. FTR recently re-signed with AEW and there are many people that believe that perhaps one day we could see a dream tag match between FTR and Edge & Christian.

The below photo was posted by Dax Harwood on Thursday night with Edge and his WWE Hall of Fame wife Beth Phoenix. There’s no information on when it was taken, but Edge has trained in the ring with both members of FTR due to their friendship since all of them live in North Carolina.

It is well known that prior to Edge returning to the WWE ring at Royal Rumble 2020 after nine years out of action, AEW reached out to Copeland about possibly working for them. Edge ended up signing a multi-year part-time deal with WWE that has seen him have a career resurgence for nearly four years.
