A new report has suggested that Drew McIntyre and Sheamus could be on a collision course to meet with gold on the line in a blockbuster WrestleMania bout.

With WrestleMania season now in full swing, rumours are running rampant surrounding which matches will be on the card come the 1st and 2nd of April. It was previously suggested that Gunther could be set for a titanic battle with Brock Lesnar, but WWE may have something else in mind.

WrestleVotes has now reported that there is talk within WWE to have an Intercontinental Championship match on the show that would pit Gunther against Sheamus and Drew McIntyre in what would surely be a bona fide banger:

“I’m told while not decided 100%, there are plans to feature an Intercontinental Championship 3 way match at WrestleMania: Gunther v Sheamus v Drew McIntyre. There are a number of supporters within creative that not only want the match, but they want it towards the top. TBD.”

Drew McIntyre was previously Intercontinental Champion in his first run with the company, losing the gold in May 2010 to Kofi Kingston. Sheamus has never held the title and it is one that accolade that has eluded him in his WWE career having held every other title available to him as well as winning a Royal Rumble match, Money In The Bank, and the King of the Ring tournament.

Gunther is currently in the midst of the seventh-longest Intercontinental Championship reign of all time but should he hold the title to WrestleMania 39, the Austrian star will move into third place on that list only behind Randy Savage and the Honky Tonk Man.
