Drew McIntyre is WWE’s top champion. He dethroned Cody Rhodes as the Undisputed WWE Champion in a Three Stages of Hell match on the January 9th, 2026, edition of WWE SmackDown.

The Scottish Warrior will enter WrestleMania as the Undisputed WWE Champion. His challenger is yet to be determined.

Whoever wins the Elimination Chamber men’s match will be the one to challenge him for the title.

Drew McIntyre’s claim about WWE’s future

Recently, the world champion appeared on Busted Open Radio. While speaking about his WrestleMania opponent, he revealed that he did not want it to be Cody Rhodes.

He claimed that Rhodes is protected by WWE, and his taking back the title would restrain it. On the other hand, McIntyre liberated the Undisputed WWE Championship and is ensuring SmackDown becomes what it was always supposed to be, unpredictable and dangerous.

I liberated this title for everybody, but mostly me, because I believe I’m the man that needs to carry it forward into the future to make SmackDown feel the way it feels right now. Not sunshine lollipops, shaking hands, and kissing babies, unpredictable and dangerous, the way it should be.

Somewhere else in the interview, Drew McIntyre referred to Cody Rhodes as the bag guy!
