Current AEW Champion Sets Sights On World Title

MJF AEW World Champion

MJF better watch his back as he’s being hunted by another top AEW champion.

MJF completed his epic return to AEW at Worlds End when he recaptured the AEW Men’s World Championship from Samoa Joe in a four-way match also featuring Hangman Adam Page and Swerve Strickland.

The Salt of the Earth retained his gold on the Maximum Carnage edition of Dynamite when he defeated Dynamite Diamond ring winner Bandido. But it seems his next challenger might have made themselves known.

Kazuchika Okada Wants Top AEW Prize

AEW International Champion Kazuchika Okada recently sent NJPW legend Hiroshi Tanahashi into retirement with a loss at Wrestle Kingdom 20. But speaking to Tokyo Sports, Okada has made clear what his next goal is in AEW, and he’s going after MJF’s title:

I still have the International belt (after losing the Continental title in December last year), but I definitely need to aim for the AEW main event (AEW World) Heavyweight belt. I’ve been fighting in different title fights for a long time, so I want to go there and win the belt, and I hope to come back to Japan with that in mind.

Since joining AEW, Kazuchika Okada has only had one chance to win the company’s very top prize when he challenged Bryan Danielson for the gold on the fifth anniversary edition of Dynamite in 2024. Danielson came out as the winner on that occasion.
