Cody Rhodes was put on concussion protocol following his bout with Randy Orton at WrestleMania 42.

Cody Rhodes faced Randy Orton in a match that had a controversial build to it with the inclusion of former WWE commentator and NFL punter Pat McAfee, who was injected into the storyline to try to push for higher WrestleMania 42 ticket sales.

The plan backfired, however, as the vast majority of fans and critics panned the idea, leading WWE to acknowledge it via Cody Rhodes on SmackDown in a promo with McAfee.

McAfee’s inclusion was set in stone and couldn’t be changed, so he entered the WrestleMania 42 match to be by Randy Orton’s side, but would get put through the announcer’s table by musician Jelly Roll on behalf of Cody Rhodes and be stretchered out before the match began. The match saw some brutality as both competitors bled from the forehead, and Rhodes ended up injuring his left eye when Orton accidentally landed a real punch on him in the middle of the match.

The match ended with Rhodes winning and retaining the WWE Title, but Orton would proceed to hit Rhodes with his signature punt kick, which was banned by WWE for wrestlers’ safety.

Following the injury, Rhodes put up a story on Instagram talking about his visit to the doctor’s office.

He says his doctor said, “You won’t lose the eye…” which Rhodes thought was an absurd statement, albeit a positive one.

‘You won’t lose the eye…’ has to be the most positive yet absurd thing I’ve ever heard in a doctors office.

Cody Rhodes Appears With A Black Eye On Raw

Rhodes interrupted CM Punk’s promo on Raw this past Monday, and the two had a conversation in the ring.

The interaction ended with Punk looking at the WWE Title and saying that he would be ready and wait for the opportunity to come his way for the Title. This led to Rhodes saying, “Hey, Punk. Just Say When.”

The tease could see a match between the two in the near future, but at the moment, with Rhodes’ eye injury, it is unclear whether he would be able to wrestle in the coming months. If he isn’t medically cleared, it is likely that he would have to relinquish the title, and then CM Punk and multiple other wrestlers are sure to go after it.

Meanwhile, Randy Orton, who failed to grab his 15th WWE World Title at WrestleMania 42 against Cody Rhodes, was reportedly hurting ahead of the show and could also go on hiatus to recover. Orton was seen holding his back at many points during his match with Rhoes at ‘Mania. It would be interesting to see what’s in store for all these top stars in the coming weeks, and with the Backlash PLE set to happen on May 9th.
