Cody Rhodes Embarrassed Before Massive WWE Match

Cody Rhodes has admitted that he was “embarrassed and dejected” ahead of an iconic match.

When Cody Rhodes made his shock return to WWE in 2022, his first target was Seth Rollins. At WrestleMania 38, The American Nightmare was Rollins’ surprise opponent, and he was able to defeat The Visionary in his first bout in a WWE ring in over five years.

Over the following weeks, Rhodes and Rollins continued their rivalry, but ahead of their third clash – which was due to take place inside Hell in a Cell – disaster struck, as Rhodes suffered a pectoral muscle tear, throwing the match into doubt.

However, Rhodes soldiered on and took part in the brutal match. After making his entrance, the star removed his ring jacket to audible gasps as he revealed that his chest was covered in a massive bruise due to the injury he was working through.

Looking back on the bout on social media, Rhodes admitted he was “embarrassed” going into it, but says the Chicago crowd won the match for him.

“I didn’t win this match, Chicago won it for me

I was so embarrassed and dejected, nothing in the eyes and just enough left in the tank for one dance

Just the clips are wild enough for me”

Despite the injury, Rhodes and Rollins went on to have a classic match that saw The American Nightmare score yet another victory over his foe. Afterwards, Rhodes had surgery to repair the muscle and was left on the shelf until making a triumphant return at the 2023 Royal Rumble.
