Cody Rhodes Makes Shocking Claim About AEW Departure
Cody Rhodes is one of the co-founders of All Elite Wrestling.
While representing the Jacksonville-based company, he became the inaugural TNT Champion and a 3-time TNT Champion overall.
In February 2022, several reports claimed that Rhodes had left the promotion with his wife, Brandi, after a 3-year stint.
To this day, neither Rhodes nor AEW has spoken about the actual reason behind his departure; at the time, he claimed it was due to a personal issue.
A couple of months later, Cody Rhodes returned to WWE, making his first appearance at WrestleMania while securing a win over Seth “Freakin” Rollins.
Despite shifting loyalties, The American Nightmare has never spoken ill of his former place of work, although he did reference being disrespected during an interview.
There have been speculations that fans may have played a role in his leaving the promotion by relentlessly booing him even when he was portraying a babyface character.
Elsewhere, reports have cited that he needed a pay rise, something the company would not agree to.
Cody Rhodes Reveals Brandi’s Role In His AEW Departure
Cody Rhodes recently appeared for an interview on the Breakfast Club podcast.
Even when the subject of his AEW departure came up, he refused to divulge any details. Although he did mention that the decision not to talk about their departure was his wife Brandi’s.
He also claimed that there were narratives built around their departure, something the couple dealt with together.
Our departure from when we left the company we were with and helped create, that was AEW, it came down to her deciding to not talk about that departure. We’re not gonna talk about it. We’re moving on. Did bad stuff happen? Good stuff happened, too. I’m not gonna talk about it. And one of the sad things about not talking about why we left and the departure, one of the difficult things was narratives get created.
Stories get told, podcasts happen, fans literally think they know what happened when no one’s been even close. What I would say is the selfless part, she lives with that. She owns that. She respects not just here, but the place we left enough to [say] ‘I’m not gonna talk about that.’ That made it so that they’re good, they’re out of here. That was very, very helpful for us. Again, good stuff happened there, too. But that’s what I mean by selfless because she lives with that. [H/T: Wrestlezone.com]
