CM Punk Issues Major Warning To Ronda Rousey Before MMA Return

Ronda Rousey WWE

Earlier this week, Ronda Rousey announced her return to MMA.

Taking to social media, Rousey announced that she would compete in a fight on May 16 against the fellow MMA pioneer, Gina Carano.

The bout is being marketed by Most Valuable Promotions and will be streamed on Netflix. For both businesses, this event is a first in terms of hosting and streaming MMA, respectively.

At 39 years old, Ronda Rousey is stepping inside the hexagon for the first time in 10 years. Her last fight was against Amanda Nunes in December 2016, where she lost by TKO in 48 seconds.

A year before that, Rousey suffered her first loss in UFC when Holly Holm beat her in 59 seconds.

On the other hand, Gina Carano is returning to the sport after a 17-year hiatus. After winning her initial six fights, Carano lost to Cris Cyborg in August 2009 and has not fought ever since.

In the meantime, Carano chanced her luck in Hollywood and got featured in several high-profile projects, including Deadpool and The Mandalorian.

CM Punk Discusses Ronda Rousey’s Return To MMA

CM Punk was recently asked about Ronda Rousey’s announcement. While he supported it, he also sent across a warning that it would not be easy for “The Baddest Woman on the Planet.”

In an interview with talkSPORT, the WWE World Heavyweight Champion claimed to know a thing or two when it came to fighting at an older age.

I think it’s great. We’re going to find out if she’s still got it. Fighting at an older age — trust me, I’m an expert on this — it’s not the easiest thing to do.

Punk also acknowledged Gina Carano’s absence from the sport for nearly two decades, but stated that it was still a marketable fight considering the legacy of both fighters.

They’re both big names, both big superstars. I think people are going to tune in to watch this — and I know I will.
