CM Punk Faces Shocking Accusation; Ex-WWE Star Responds
CM Punk has been called many things, and a steroid user is not one of them.
Until now, that is.
Recently, a fan took to Twitter to compare two pictures of The Second City Saint, one from his time in All Elite Wrestling and another, a recent one.
While the first user called it ‘peak hypocrisy,’ another user sharing the post accused the 47-year-old WWE star of using “gear.”
CM Punk is known for his straight-edge lifestyle, meaning he abstains from alcoholic drinks, tobacco, and recreational drugs. Between 2009 and 2010, WWE had an entire gimmick around it, with Punk forming a faction called the Straight Edge Society.
Ex-WWE Star Defends CM Punk Over Steroid Use Accusation
The fan’s accusation on Twitter caught the attention of former WWE star Cezar Bononi, who not only called the assessment ‘insane’ but also made an Instagram video, where he defended CM Punk.
While praising Punk and his trainer, Bononi said that such accusations are common, and people often immediately point out steroid usage.
CM Punk is on steroids—this is what this random user is talking about right here. Just the most absurd thing, that when somebody has any changes in their physique, the first thing that’s pointed out is steroids. First thing—kudos to Punk, kudos to Jay Ferruggia, one of the best coaches around.
Bononi also said that he noted nothing unnatural in Punk’s body and assured that such results can be achieved without using performance enhancers.
This physique right here is very, very achievable naturally. There’s zero indication of any steroids used right here, but people will say whatever they say just to get their point in and catch attention.
Cezar also called out the common practice of fans accusing wrestlers of steroid use without possessing any evidence or access to their medical status.
Look at this—I even brought it up—it’s absolutely insane that this needs some gear or anything like that. ‘This guy is even saying he doesn’t need it, but he did it anyway.’ Did you have access to his bloodwork? How can you say something like this?
To close out his defense of Punk, the ex-WWE star said that people usually lash out at wrestlers and accuse them of cutting corners because they have either not achieved similar results or can never relate to them.
It’s completely absurd. When somebody achieves something most people don’t, the first thing we do is diminish it. Even if he was taking something, he still had to put the work in. Guys, first thing—you don’t have to take steroids. I’m not against it, I’m not up to it either. But if you cannot achieve something, you better believe that some other people can. Just don’t point at whatever you believe they are doing to bring others down so you can feel a little bit better. [H/T: Ringside News]
