CM Punk Confirms Only One Reason Brought Him Back To WWE
CM Punk returned to WWE at Elimination Chamber 2023, and has managed to add more accolades to his resume since then.
Currently, The Best in the World is the World Heavyweight Champion. He is heading into WrestleMania 42 as the champion and will main event Night 2 against Roman Reigns.
Previously, he had main-evented WrestleMania 41’s Night 1 against Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns in a Triple Threat Match. Once WrestleMania 42 is done and dusted, he will have main-evented both nights.
CM Punk reveals why he returned to WWE
When a superstar returns to WWE, there is almost always unfinished business. While CM Punk had done it all, there was one thing he still hadn’t done in the Stamford-based promotion when he left the company in 2014. He had not main-evented WrestleMania.
While speaking to WWE Now, he was asked if his younger version would be satisfied after main-eventing against Roman Reigns. Punk revealed that while he is unsure if satisfied is the word, he doesn’t know if he would have come back to WWE had he gotten this moment before leaving.
You know, satisfy, I don’t know if it’s the word, but it might be dangerous because, yeah, because if you think about this, if I main evented WrestleMania before I left, I don’t think I would have come back because I would have done it. What am I coming back for?
It’s just one of those things. I did it last year, and there’s that moment in Unreal where there’s always cameras on us, but I didn’t know they were shooting me at that moment. That moment was just me standing in the ring after the fact. I didn’t win, and it’s far beyond being about that, and I was just standing in the ring by myself, and I was just looking at like all four sides of the crowd and like people. I could tell there’s people from numerous different countries, and I’m just kind of like looking around all four sides, just like soaking it in. Well, if this is the last time I’m ever going to be in a ring. I did it.
Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk was announced right off the bat to boost the ticket sales for WrestleMania 42. TKO has been struggling with ticket sales for the premium live event, and WrestleMania 41 had one of the highest attendances. To follow that, TKO took some measures.
With only a few days remaining for WrestleMania 42, the match card has taken incredible shape with some dream matches being added to the card.
