Chris Jericho’s AEW Contract Extension Reports Shot Down As “Fake News”

Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho’s AEW status remains unclear amid WWE return rumors.

The Ayatollah of Rock and Rolla joined Tony Khan’s promotion in 2019 following his departure from WWE. He has since been one of the cornerstones of AEW.

Nevertheless, the inaugural AEW World Champion has been absent from TV for nearly a year, as rumors suggested his contract expired last December. The 55-year-old is also rumored to make a comeback to WWE.

A recent report from Fightful Select claimed Jericho was still under contract with AEW. The report added that there is a belief that the wrestling legend’s contract was frozen when he took time off in 2025.

Conrad Thomson Claims The Chris Jericho AEW Contract Update Is “Fake News”

On a recent episode of WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff’s podcast, 83 Weeks, his co-host Conrad Thompson addressed the recent report suggesting Chris Jericho’s AEW contract was frozen.

Ric Flair’s son-in-law claimed the report held no truth, stating that it was a million percent “bullsh*t.”

Thompson: What’s Larry Thompson’s favorite word that he says that you like?

Bischoff: Bullsh*t.

Thompson: Buddy, that’s what that is a million percent.

Bischoff: Why do you think that? The delay says freaking everything. You’re not as good a poker player as you think you are.

Thompson: I’m not gonna say, but what’s Larry call it?

Bischoff: Bullsh*t.

Thompson: That’s what that is. And by the way, I wanna be surprised. I’m pulling for whatever’s coming next. I’m a wrestling fan first and foremost. I wanna see the surprise. But that, my friends, is some bullsh*t. That’s some fake news. [2:00:16 onwards]
