Why Charlotte Flair Believes Women Can Still Main Event WWE WrestleMania

The notion of female wrestlers main-eventing WWE WrestleMania was unprecedented.

Until Charlotte Flair did it, that is.

At WrestleMania 35, Flair, along with Ronda Rousey and Becky Lynch, headlined the Show of the Immortals in a Winner Takes All triple threat match.

Before the match, The Queen served as the SmackDown Women’s Champion, whereas the “Rowdy” one was the Raw Women’s Champion.

While ‘The Man’ ended up winning and becoming the double champion, the match was also known for its highly controversial finish because the referee counted three despite Rousey’s shoulder being in the air.

Other than Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, and Ronda Rousey, there are two other female wrestlers to main event a WrestleMania event.

On Night 1 of WrestleMania 37, Sasha Banks unsuccessfully defended the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Bianca Belair, giving Belair her first world championship.

Charlotte Flair Hopeful About Females Main-Eventing WrestleMania Again

Charlotte Flair has been an advocate of women’s wrestling for the longest time.

During a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, she was asked about the possibility of females main-eventing WrestleMania again. Since 2021, all main events have been dominated by male performers.

In response, the 39-year-old said that the main events do not have to be decided to push a particular gender, but a story should decide that instead.

I think any given year the women can main event, it just depends on who has the best story. I don’t think anyone should be given the main event spot just because they’re a man or a woman. I think it should be who has the best story.

WrestleMania 42, which will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada, will again run across two nights. So far, one of the main events has been booked, with CM Punk defending his World Heavyweight Championship against Roman Reigns.
