Charlotte Flair Feels Like She Knows Why WWE Audience Felt Disconnected
Charlotte Flair thinks she has a better understanding of why WWE fans react to her the way they do.
When Charlotte Flair won the 2025 WWE Women’s Royal Rumble, it came after she missed over a year of action due to a serious knee injury that required surgery.
The reception for Flair’s win wasn’t overwhelmingly positive because many fans feel like the 14-time Women’s Champion has already won enough in her career, and giving Flair the Rumble win was something that could have gone to somebody else.
By the time she got to WrestleMania 41 for her match with Tiffany Stratton, which Stratton won, Flair was hated by the WWE fans just like she was for most of her career.
Since WrestleMania, Flair has become a babyface simply by aligning with Alexa Bliss as two veteran wrestlers who, according to Flair, are not friends. However, when watching the chemistry of Flair and Bliss on screen, they unquestionably come across as great friends.
In addition to her on-screen alliance with Alexa Bliss, Charlotte Flair also opened up in a significant way in a Players’ Tribute article in early July, where she commented on going through personal issues, losing friends that she once had, and trying to fight back from a serious injury. It led to many fans saying they respected Flair more for her journey in becoming an all-time WWE great.
Charlotte Flair Has A Better Understanding Of Her Character Now
While speaking to Fightful, Charlotte Flair admitted she knows why the audience was disconnected, and also why they have embraced her now.
“I think I’ve kind of over the years lost the importance of what made Charlotte special. I thought it was being untouchable. Charlotte was in her own box trying to be perfect all the time and [I think] that disconnected her from the audience.
With everything that I’ve been through personally that I’ve tried to hide or not talk about or pretend wasn’t happening, was really what made my character so tough because I went through all these things.
It was like, you know what, these scars or trauma or whatever I’ve been through is what has made her special. Owning that and opening up, then the fans are like, oh. Really, that’s all it took was to be yourself, not pretending to be some perfect queen. It’s been great.”
At WWE SummerSlam, Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss will challenge Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez for the Women’s Tag Team Titles. That match will take place on Saturday, August 2nd, on the first of two nights of WWE’s summer spectacular that will take place at MetLife Stadium.
