The AEW World Championship has changed hands fairly recently over the last few months, as the championship changed hands four times in the six months between November 2025 and May 2026.

Samoa Joe dethroned Hangman Adam Page as champion at Full Gear in November before dropping the belt to MJF at World’s End the next month. MJF then lost the belt to Darby Allin at Dynamite: Spring BreakThru in April.

The two men then competed for the title once again at AEW Double or Nothing last month in a Title vs Hair match, where MJF reclaimed the World Championship from Allin.

Kevin Knight was taken out by the former AEW World Champion

Following their match, Allin suffered a major betrayal as he was attacked by Kevin Knight, who supported Allin throughout his rivalry with MJF. He hit a UFO Splash on Allin as he was being stretchered out of the arena, and he hadn’t been seen since.

After turning heel, Knight turned on his tag team partner, Speedball Mike Bailey,  as well, and joined forces with Don Callis and became the latest addition to the Don Callis Family. Knight came out tonight to talk about his future in the company.

He had made his intentions known of going after the AEW World Championship, and he reiterated his thoughts tonight. However, as he addressed the crowd, Knight was taken out by a returning Darby Allin.

The former World Champion attacked him with a skateboard to the back and assaulted him with punches to the face and the back of his head. He was about to deliver a Coffin Drop to Knight, but ran out of the arena as the rest of the Don Callis Family came to Kevin Knight’s aid.
