Alberto Del Rio Released As Domestic Violence Case Takes Major Turn
Alberto Del Rio has lately been all over wrestling news, but not for his in-ring accomplishments.
On April 6, the former WWE star was arrested in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, after his wife made a 911 call to report domestic violence. The on-site officials noted that the woman had visible injuries on her face and arms.
The Civil Guard officers left Del Rio’s fate in the hands of the State Attorney General’s Office, which later confirmed that it had opened an investigation against him.
A report by Milenio revealed that Alberto Del Rio could face one of two sentences under the San Luis Potosí Criminal Code.
The minimum charge could put him behind bars for one to seven years, plus a fine that would range from roughly 2,346 pesos to 82,117 pesos.
A more serious charge will see him get imprisoned anywhere from eight to 20 years and a fine of roughly between 46,924 pesos and 82,117 pesos.
Another media outlet, Infobae Mexico, revealed the identity of the victim as Mary Carmen Rodriguez Lucero.
Following his arrest, Del Rio’s current employer, The Crash Lucha Libre, claimed that the 48-year-old had been indefinitely suspended from making appearances.
Through this notice, The Crash Lucha Libre is a company with values that promotes sports entertainment in a family-friendly manner and condemns any act of violence outside the sports entertainment. For this reason, we will suspend Alberto Del Rio “El Patron” from our programming following the events that recently occurred.
Alberto Del Rio Released After Legal Agreement With Wife
Amid Alberto Del Rio’s arrest, media outlets had been digging into his history involving similar incidents of DV.
Mexican reporter Gabriel Cuevas of Radio Formula MX stated that the 48-year-old wanted to k*ll his partner due to his suspicions about her having an affair.
And here’s the most shocking part—he allegedly convinced himself that Marie Carmen was involved with an Exatlón competitor, Dan Noyola, who is also a cyclist.
The jealousy escalated to the point where he believed her cycling was an excuse to meet another man. This is the same man who humiliated others—mocking people for their English, their worn boots, for not traveling first class. And yesterday, that same man—consumed by jealousy—allegedly tried to take the life of his wife, Marie Carmen, whom he married in 2024, believing in his mind that her cycling meant she was being unfaithful with another athlete.
A new report by Bodyslam.net claimed that the Mexican wrestler had been granted moral forgiveness by his wife.
The report revealed that Alberto Del Rio admitted to being guilty, following which his wife pardoned him. He was then instructed to pay a bail amount of 1,000,000 Mexican pesos, which approximately equates to $58,000 USD.
He was also informed that a felony was registered on his employment record for the remainder of his life.
His future in wrestling, at this time, appears bleak, as promotions do not usually allow people with a criminal record to perform for them.
Alberto Del Rio is a former 4-time singles world champion in WWE and has also performed in AAA, which was acquired by the Stamford promotion last year.
