Alberto Del Rio’s arrest took a turn for the worse after new details emerged.
The former WWE Champion was arrested on April 6 in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, after his wife called 911 to report a domestic dispute involving violence.
Multiple social media posts emerged, showing the 48-year-old in handcuffs. An investigation was subsequently opened against him, stating that he would be presented before the judicial authority for the initial hearing.
Following his arrest, his current employer, The Crash Lucha Libre, announced that he had been indefinitely suspended.

Del Rio’s 2026 arrest for domestic violence is not his first. In 2020, he was arrested in San Antonio, Texas, for allegedly sexually assaulting and battering his then-girlfriend.
Former WWE Divas Champion, Paige (Saraya), also accused him of physical violence after they separated.

As media outlets reported that Alberto Del Rio could face 8 to 20 years imprisonment, if convicted, new details present a more gnarly backstory.
Mexican reporter Gabriel Cuevas of Radio Formula MX claimed that Del Rio’s intent towards attacking his wife could raise the stakes for him if proven.
Cuevas claimed that the case did not involve a general DV scenario, as Alberto had attacked his wife, Marie Carmen, with the intent to k*ll.
And now this story is coming to light—that El Patrón, apparently—and I repeat this—yesterday intended to kill Marie Carmen.
He then proceeded to detail how the situation actually unfolded, leading to the former WWE Champion’s arrest.
Alberto, better known as ‘El Patrón,’ was arrested yesterday in San Luis Potosí. This image quickly began circulating online yesterday afternoon. I was shocked when they sent me this photograph and told me, ‘Gabriel, this is happening.’
Cuevas also claimed that Del Rio’s attack did not occur on impulse, but rather was a result of moments that developed between the couple in real-time.
Without a doubt, I dare say this was a tragedy that had been building. You could see it, feel it, notice the kind of person this man is. I was on the program Dulce y Picosito… when suddenly my colleague sent us this news. We shared it on the show, and then Flor realized that his wife had contacted her back on March 5—late at night—apparently asking for help.
The reporter also highlighted the intensity of their argument, revealing that neighbors were forced to intervene.
The man you are seeing on screen, this wrestler, assaulted his wife to the point of breaking part of her nose. Yesterday afternoon, a neighbor contacted me via WhatsApp and began telling me this story, which is extremely serious. They are telling me this had been going on for months… he had already committed several acts of aggression against her.
The early problems in the relationship that began to alarm her… were jealousy. El Patrón started showing extreme jealousy. She would say, ‘How is it possible that the man who promised to take care of me is now jealous of me—even of my friends?’
Cuevas then described past incidents involving the former WWE star.
Over two months ago, he threw her bicycle at her… imagine your partner throwing your training bicycle at you because he said, ‘What are you going to do—look for other men? Am I not enough for you?’ Neighbors began to notice that she would frequently scream in the house, that they heard blows, insults, and very violent behavior. He began kicking her bicycle, damaging it so she wouldn’t go out.
He claimed that 911 calls were made against the ex-WWE star on multiple occasions previously, but there was no action from the authorities.
Neighbors repeatedly called 911 asking for help… officers would come, but nothing was done. He is a monster. This is not the first time he has done this. He claimed the municipal president would support him publicly, but it was never true. When he spoke about his wife, others already knew he hit her, but she denied it out of fear. Since last year, Marie Carmen had been abused by him due to jealousy.
The report also said that the 6-time WWE Champion had convinced himself that his wife had been unfaithful to him.
And here’s the most shocking part—he allegedly convinced himself that Marie Carmen was involved with an Exatlón competitor, Dan Noyola, who is also a cyclist.
The jealousy escalated to the point where he believed her cycling was an excuse to meet another man. This is the same man who humiliated others—mocking people for their English, their worn boots, for not traveling first class. And yesterday, that same man—consumed by jealousy—allegedly tried to take the life of his wife, Marie Carmen, whom he married in 2024, believing in his mind that her cycling meant she was being unfaithful with another athlete.
The case is still in its developing stage. If the latest charge is proven against the former WWE star, Del Rio could see himself behind bars for a long time.
