Former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio has shot himself in the foot.

Del Rio was arrested last month in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, for physically assaulting his wife, Mary Carmen Rodríguez. A report claimed that the woman called 911 after suffering injuries to her face and arms.

As a result, the Attorney General’s Office of the State of San Luis Potosí announced that it had opened an investigation against the former WWE star and that he would be presented before the judicial authority for the initial hearing.

Some reports even claimed that if convicted, he could be imprisoned for anywhere between 8 and 20 years.

Following his arrest, his current employer, The Crash Lucha Libre, temporarily suspended him from making any appearances.

However, a few days later, a major twist in the case saw Alberto Del Rio get released after he was pardoned by his partner.

Del Rio was then instructed to pay a bail amount of 1,000,000 Mexican pesos, which approximately equates to $58,000 USD. He was also informed that a felony was registered on his employment record for the remainder of his life.

Alberto Del Rio’s Controversial Remarks Land Him In Trouble

Alberto Del Rio returned to in-ring competition following his release from prison.

On May 1, he made an appearance at Arena José Sulaimán in Monterrey, competing in a tribute show for his father, Dos Caras.

During the show, LA Park made a comment that raised legal concerns involving Del Rio. LA Park said: “Alberto, I think it’s a woman, hit her,” which drew laughter from the 48-year-old.

A latest report by RECORD Mexico claims that Alberto’s handling of the situation has triggered a deeper review, with lawyers representing his wife analyzing whether his conduct could have violated the precautionary measures imposed by the judge during his release.

The report further states that if the court agrees with the accuser, Alberto Del Rio could face incarceration again.
