Huge AEW Star Teases Challenging Darby Allin At All In
A top AEW star has teased challenging Darby Allin for the World Championship at All In: London.
Allin won the rights to challenge MJF for the title by defeating Andrade El Idolo in a singles match at Dynasty on April 12.
On the April 15 episode of AEW Dynamite, he announced his intention to challenge for the championship, something MJF immediately opposed. However, the bout was finalized as the main event of the evening.
The match was an absolute squash, starting with Darby hitting the champion with a low blow when the referee’s back was turned.
He then hit him with a Scorpion Death Drop and followed it up with four Coffin Drops for a side headlock and a pinfall victory, much to the astonishment of the live audience and viewers watching at home.
This was Allin’s first AEW World Championship victory. He has previously won the TNT Championship twice and the World Tag Team Championship once with his mentor, Sting.
Will Ospreay Has His Eyes Set On AEW World Championship
Even before Darby Allin was announced as the #1 Contender, multiple wrestlers, including Tommaso Ciampa and Kevin Knight, had staked their claim to the championship.
Now, even Will Ospreay has thrown his name into the hat, expecting to challenge the 33-year-old for the title. While speaking to Sportster during an interview, he praised the current AEW Champion while expressing his desire to win the biggest title of the promotion in front of his home crowd at All In: London in August.
I know Darby doesn’t fear anything in this world, but I think nothing would scare him more than seeing however many British people chanting horrible things at him whilst I’m kicking the ever-loving shit out of him. That moment would be… I couldn’t put it into words because years ago when they first done that Wembley show, it didn’t seem like it was real and it didn’t seem like it was possible to especially fill it at the time, and I wasn’t even a part of the company back then.
So the fact that I could never imagine what Wembley Stadium would look like, and now I’ve been in there, and I felt winning a championship in that venue, to win the most coveted prize in all pro wrestling, I think honestly it would just be one of those moments where I finally did something cool in my life that I can actually look back on and be proud about. Darby Allin’s First Title Challenger Announced
A week after winning the AEW World Championship, Darby Allin is set to defend his title.
On April 18, Tony Khan announced via Twitter that Tommaso Ciampa would be Allin’s first challenger, and they would clash at Dynamite on April 22 in Portland, Oregon.
He also revealed that Will Ospreay will face the Don Callis Family’s Mark Davis in a singles match. It will be interesting to see what condition Ospreay is in, considering the 18-minute battle he went through with Davis’ stablemate Hechicero last week.
Also, tensions have risen between Mina Shirakawa and Hikaru Shida, who will go one-on-one during the live taping on Wednesday.
