“I’m Just An A**hole” – AEW Champion Not Willing To Turn Babyface
A current AEW champion has made a huge revelation.
Thekla joined the AEW roster last year. Within a short span of time, she managed to capture everybody’s attention. The Toxic Spider also formed an alliance with Julia Hart and Skye Blue. This partnership has proved fruitful to her.
Thekla shocked the world when she won the AEW Women’s World Championship from Kris Statlander on the 11th February episode of Dynamite. Since then, she has defended the title multiple times against some of the top women in the division. Thekla is also regarded as one of the best heels in the women’s division. Despite her rising popularity, she doesn’t plan on turning babyface.
During an appearance on The Sal Licata Show, the AEW Women’s World Champion said that she is never going to turn babyface since she likes being a heel.
“I was never going to be a babyface either, so ‘toxic’ is just like—you know—it tells you, ‘Be aware, danger.’ That’s me.”
When asked why she would never want to be a babyface, Thekla responded that she just enjoys being a p**ck and people enjoy watching her as a heel.
“I’m just an a**hole, man. I don’t like playing by rules. I don’t like bending down to authority. I’m just a little bit of a p**ck—and I’m having fun with that. And I think people like to watch me have fun being a p**ck. So there you have it.” [H/T Ringside News]
Thekla revealed why she chose AEW over WWE
During an interview on the Talk Is Jericho podcast, Thekla revealed that after learning how things work in WWE, she decided that it would not be the best place for her. The Toxic Spider also said that she was more drawn to AEW because it had a punk feel to it.
“I had always told my friends back when AEW first started, I was like, ‘Hey guys, just so you know, this is where I’m going to be at some point. So just heads up.’ So then my cocky attitude kind of led me also to be like, you gotta follow up on that one.
When I first started watching WWE and learning about how things are done over there. I think generally, I didn’t love the idea of having to not do things my way. Everybody knows that you gotta drop your name and have to do whatever somebody tells you. I’m not great with authority.
When AEW started, I thought, okay, something new. I love a good underdog. And I just liked the melting pot of people who started there. It just had more of a punk feel and more of a fresh feel. I was like, that’s probably a good place for me at some point.”
Thekla is set to defend her AEW Women’s World Championship against Starlight Kid at AEW Forbidden Door 2026.
