BREAKING: 3-Time Champion Expected At AEW Double Or Nothing After 273-Day Absence
New York is all set to host AEW Double Or Nothing tonight.
The pay-per-view comprises several high-stakes matches, including the World Championship match between Darby Allin and MJF. In the lead-up to their bout, Allin convinced Maxwell Jacob Friedman to put his hair on the line to get a title shot.
Meanwhile, it is being reported that one of Friedman’s ex-associates is expected to be at DoN. According to Fightful Select, former 3-time AEW TNT Champion Wardlow will be at the venue, although it remains unconfirmed if it will be a television appearance.
Wardlow last wrestled for the company during the March 13, 2024, episode of Dynamite, where he challenged Samoa Joe for the world title in a losing cause.
In late April of that same year, he suffered a knee injury, which kept him away from action for more than a year.
Wardlow made his presence felt at last year’s AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door by attacking Prince Nana before joining the Don Callis Family. In September, it was reported that he suffered a torn pectoral muscle during his appearance, leading to another indefinite hiatus.
The 38-year-old has been attending shows regularly, which is a pattern maintained by the Jacksonville-based company for injured wrestlers so as to maintain locker room connection, but not necessarily committing them to in-ring appearances.
Wardlow Discussed Recent Injuries On Podcast
Amid his absence from AEW, Wardlow made a virtual appearance on the BCP+ podcast in April, where he confirmed Fightful’s report about him sustaining the pectoral injury.
While at it, he also spoke about participating in the reboot of American Gladiator. He revealed that ahead of the taping of the show, he fully tore his left bicep.
He also decided against undergoing surgery, instead opting to wear a sleeve on the show to hide the discoloration on his arm.
AEW Double Or Nothing To Feature 12 Matches
Including the AEW World Championship match between Darby Allin and MJF, the Double Or Nothing pay-per-view contains 12 matches.
While 9 of these are announced bouts, 3 are Buy In matches. Speaking of Buy In, WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley will be a part of the show alongside Renee Paquette. Foley recently confirmed that he was All Elite after announcing his decision to leave WWE in December.
At the event, Thekla will defend the Women’s World Championship in a 4-way match against Kris Statlander, Jamie Hayter, and Hikaru Shida. Also, FTR will put their tag titles on the line against Cope & Cage; if the babyfaces lose, they must never team up again.
Kazuchika Okada and Konosuke Takeshita will square off in a singles match for the AEW International Championship. The members of the Don Callis Family have been feuding for several weeks.
Chris Jericho and Ricochet’s feud has also culminated in a Stadium Stampede match.
The Men’s and Women’s Owen Hart Cup tournament will get underway with multiple matches taking place. Furthermore, Jon Moxley will defend his Continental Championship in a No Time Limit Match against Kyle O’Reilly.
