WWE News: The Miz and Paige Sign New Contracts, Johnny Gargano Injury, Ali Gets “Mustafa” Name Back

There was some news on the WWE Backstage show last night that didn’t involve CM Punk’s return to WWE. Oh yeah, we covered that here in case you missed it.

* The Miz has signed a new contract extension to remain in WWE. According to PWInsider, Miz already had a long term WWE deal that was set to expire in 2022 (signed last year), but Miz has signed another new deal that will keep him in WWE until at least 2025. That means it’s a six-year deal. It also means The Miz, who is 39 years old, will be a part of WWE until he’s at least 45 years old, which is around the time when some wrestlers start to slow down. Miz has been one of the most durable guys in WWE in the last 20 years with a long list of accomplishments in WWE including a former WWE Champion, a WrestleMania main eventer, he has the second most Intercontinental Title reigns ever (he will pass Chris Jericho for that record) and many other titles. The Miz also represents WWE very well in media interviews.

The Miz staying with WWE isn’t much of a surprise. He’s been there for 15 years as he said, plus he’s got the Miz & Mrs. reality show with his wife Maryse where it covers their life as parents and all the wacky shenanigans that happen on “reality” shows. Miz also has two young daughters at home with their second girl born two months ago. The Miz is paid very well by WWE, he has a huge house in the Los Angeles area and he’ll continue to be a high paid guy that’s a WWE lifer.

* It was also announced that former WWE Divas Champion Paige has signed a new deal to remain in the company until at least 2023. It’s a four-year deal. Paige is 27 years old.

Paige is likely never going to wrestle again due to a neck injury that sidelined her a few years ago, but at least WWE fans know she’ll be around the company for at least four more years. I think she has done well on WWE Backstage so far. I believe she lives in the Los Angeles area where WWE Backstage is taped, so it makes sense to use her as a regular on that show.

* There’s some injury news as well because it was announced on WWE Backstage last night that Johnny Gargano will not be cleared to compete at NXT Wargames on November 23 because of a neck injury.

The severity of the injury is not known, but we hope it’s not too serious and that Johnny can be back in action. The last time Gargano was on WWE NXT was a few weeks ago when Finn Balor turned heel on him and gave him a brainbuster on the ramp.

All of the above news items were covered on WWE Backstage last night by their “WWE Insider” Ryan Satin of the Pro Wrestling Sheet website.

* It was announced by Ali that he gets to be Mustafa Ali again. When WWE shortened his name to just Ali, he wasn’t a fan of it, so good for him getting the name back.

I like that. It’s better to have the full name although I’m sure the shortened name club of wrestlers will miss him.
