WWE News: Lars Sullivan Expected to Miss 6 to 9 Months Due to Knee Surgery

The monster push of Lars Sullivan appears to be over…at least for 2019. Lars Sullivan has been pushed heavily on WWE television since WrestleMania after several months of videos hyping his return.

You may recall that he was going to do an angle with John Cena earlier in the year, but it didn’t happen due to anxiety issues that Sullivan was experiencing. Last month, Sullivan was fined $100,000 by WWE for making disparaging remarks about different races and ethnic groups.

At Super Showdown earlier this month, Sullivan had his first official match on WWE TV when he won by disqualification over the Lucha House Party in a 3 on 1 match. The next night on Raw, Sullivan decimated the group to win in more dominant fashion. However, that’s probably going to be the last we see of Sullivan this year.

It was reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Sullivan’s knee injury was worse than anticipated and WWE believes he’s going to miss anywhere from six to nine months. Sullivan got an MRI on the knee last week. A six to nine-month knee injury could be a torn ACL because that’s usually the timeline given for that sort of injury although sometimes it’s more than that. It’s not known when Sullivan suffered the knee injury.

Sullivan was scheduled to face Matt Hardy on the June 11 edition of Smackdown, but the match never happened due to Sullivan’s knee injury.

If Sullivan misses six months than that will put him out for the rest of the year and perhaps he’ll be ready for the Royal Rumble in late January 2020. That would mean seven months out. If it is nine months on the shelf them WrestleMania is in doubt.

It’s been a rough year for major knee injuries in WWE with Nia Jax having surgery on both knees, Mickie James recently tore her ACL and now Sullivan is going to be gone for the rest of the year.

There’s been no official word from WWE on the specifics of the injury or when Sullivan might have surgery.

Here’s the last match that Sullivan had on Raw from two weeks ago. It didn’t look like he was favoring his knee at all.
