WWE’s Real WrestleMania 42 Plans For Drew McIntyre Revealed
Drew McIntyre is currently involved in a heated rivalry with Jacob Fatu.
The tensions between the two had been building for a while, but things escalated into a full-blown rivalry after Fatu cost McIntyre the Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes a few weeks ago.
Given how WWE has been building the storyline, many expected the two to collide in a major match at WrestleMania 42 next month. However, WWE pulled a shocker by announcing that the McIntyre vs. Fatu match will instead take place on the March 20 episode of Friday Night SmackDown.
This raised questions about McIntyre’s direction heading into WrestleMania 42. Bryan Alvarez discussed the topic on a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, where he questioned the reasoning behind booking McIntyre vs. Fatu on SmackDown instead of at WrestleMania.
Drew McIntyre And Jacob Fatu Will Wrestle Again At WWE WrestleMania 42
In response, Dave Meltzer clarified that the SmackDown match is only a setup, which will further advance the storyline and ultimately lead to a bigger clash between McIntyre and Fatu at WrestleMania 42.
Bryan Alvarez: “Well, that was the show there. And yeah, SmackDown’s got Randy Orton live on the show. I’m sure he’ll get cheered like crazy. And Jacob Fatu faces Drew McIntyre, which is kind of interesting because I thought that was a Mania match.”
Dave Meltzer: “It is. It is a Mania match.”
Bryan Alvarez: “Just do something to set it up.”
Dave Meltzer: “It’s to set up a Mania match. Yeah, yeah.”
