Some In WWE Think Company Could Still Land Mercedes Mone

Mercedes Mone

Speculation around Mercedes Mone rumbles on.

When Mercedes Mone appeared in the crowd at AEW All In at Wembley Stadium it seemed that a deal between the two sides was a formality. However, as with most things in wrestling, the story wasn’t straightforward.

Mone didn’t put pen to paper and it was reported that the former Sasha Banks was then in talks with WWE, although those discussions collapsed over money. In something of a full circle moment, Mercedes Mone is now expected to sign with AEW.

Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that while the predominant feeling is that Mone lands in AEW, some in WWE have speculated that this could be another “CM Punk situation.”

“The other rumor was that Mercedes Mone would be starting with AEW shortly. The only thing we heard is that she was in talks with WWE and they were far apart on money. Some in WWE speculated that this could be a Punk situation where everyone denies it to lead to a Rumble surprise. Mone was talked about by others in WWE as Khan’s counter punch for losing Andrade. Khan did say he would be very active in the free agent market in 2024.”

Why Did Mercedes Mone Leave WWE

Mercedes Mone hasn’t featured for WWE since walking out of a Monday Night taping on May 16th, 2022. The star and fellow Women’s Tag Team Champion Naomi reportedly left following a row over creative.

While Mone appears unlikely to return to WWE, it’s been reported that Naomi — who is currently wrestling as Trinity, will return when her IMPACT Wrestling contract expires.
