WWE Statement About Employee (Not a Wrestler) Testing Positive for COVID-19, Complete Recovery, More

TJR Wrestling

The below statement was issued by WWE today about one of their employees that was at recent tapings at the WWE Performance Center. It’s not a wrestler and even if it was, wrestling fans know that the term “independent contractor” is the preferred term. Here’s the statement:

“A WWE employee has tested positive for COVID-19. We believe this matter is low risk to WWE talent and staff, as the individual and a roommate became symptomatic in the days following exposure to two people working in acute health care on the evening of March 26, after WWE’s TV production on a closed set was already complete. The employee had no contact with anyone from WWE since being exposed to those two individuals, is doing well, and made a complete recovery.”

As you can see there, the name of the person was not mentioned. It’s also obviously a good thing that this individual made a complete recovery. What wasn’t intelligent by this individual was hanging out with other people after WWE’s TV production took place.

That above issue was issued after Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp posted a memo that he obtained from a WWE source.

“We have just been notified that (name redacted by Fightful) was diagnosed with COVID-19. WWE doctors spoke with (redacted) this morning and reported (they) last had contact with anyone at WWE on March 26 at the Performance Center. As you know, (redacted) is not an in-ring performer and we believe this matter is low-risk to you per the following chronology:”

It went on to state the details of what that person told them and that the individual felt much better. More info was provided as well.

“Those of you who were potentially exposed would be cleared for travel by the evening of Thursday, April 9 at the latest, since the last possible exposure to any WWE talent personnel should have been at least 14 days prior.”

The letter was signed by Paul Levesque (Triple H).

TJR Thoughts: There’s the first case (that we know of) where a WWE person got COVID-19 also known as Coronavirus. However, WWE can defend it by saying it didn’t happen because this individual was at the WWE Performance Center. The individual may have got it by spending time with medical personnel. I’m just happy that whoever this is has made a full recovery and is feeling better.

As I mentioned in this post earlier today, this is the concern with running live editions of Raw, Smackdown and NXT going forward. They could have taped a month’s worth of shows over a week. Instead, they’re going to ask people to go home, fly (or drive) back and that’s a lot of exposure. You may not feel sick at the moment you get tested, but in a few days it may be different. Anyway, please be smart and safe out there.
