Huge WWE Star May Retire Next After AJ Styles
AJ Styles retired from in-ring competition after the Royal Rumble following his singles match loss to Gunther.
Last year, John Cena and Goldberg also hung up their wrestling boots. Now, according to Stevie Richards, Rey Mysterio could be the next in line to retire.
On the January 26th edition of Monday Night Raw, Rey Mysterio faced Austin Theory in a one-on-one match. During the bout, Mysterio appeared to suffer multiple injuries to his left leg, shoulder, and ribs, as he was seen clutching them throughout the match.
Former WWE star Stevie Richards later examined Rey Mysterio’s match against Austin Theory on his YouTube podcast, analyzing the full bout and what went wrong.
Rey Mysterio Could Retire Soon, Says Ex-WWE Star Stevie Richards
During his conversation with James Romero, Stevie Richards highlighted that it is possible Rey Mysterio could retire soon, given that Rey is 51 years old and clearly in the latter stage of his career.
Richards said, “But Rey [Mysterio] is in such a weird place. He may be the next one to retire, for all we know. (From 6:44)”
Despite the injuries he sustained on Monday Night Raw, Rey Mysterio still competed in the Men’s Royal Rumble match on January 31st. He entered the match at #4 and lasted almost three minutes before being eliminated by the #1 entrant, Oba Femi.
Roman Reigns won this year’s men’s Royal Rumble, and Gunther was the runner-up. Je’Von Evans became the Iron Man of the 2026 WWE Men’s Royal Rumble match, lasting an impressive 40 minutes and 58 seconds.
