WWE SmackDown Star Confirms Their In-Ring Career Is Over
WWE SmackDown star Wade Barrett has confirmed that his in-ring career is truly over.
The last time Barrett stepped inside the ring was around a decade ago in April 2016, when he teamed up with Sheamus to face The New Day’s Big E and Kofi Kingston for the WWE Tag Team Titles on Monday Night Raw.
He then left WWE and spent some time in the NWA before returning to the company in 2020. In his second stint, he joined the Stamford-based promotion as a color commentator and has been on commentary duties ever since.
WWE Star Wade Barrett Has No Plan To Come Out Of Retirement
In a recent interview with Metro UK, Wade Barrett explained that he has no intention of returning to the ring. He stated that there was once an idea floated during his time in NWA for him to face Nick Aldis. However, he does not plan to wrestle anymore.
“I don’t want to put any ideas in anyone’s head, he said. ‘Oh, Wade’s rolling around pretty well.’ Oh, I like that landing. You know what? Let’s have Brock Lesnar or Drew or Sheamus beat the hell out of the commentator this week. ‘Let’s, let’s not put that out in the universe. Don’t give anyone any bad ideas!”
“That was definitely something that was floated out there, [but] I was strictly in NWA as a commentator. I would absolutely vouch for him to be a guy to have that, maybe with an Adam Pearce. I can see our two GMs of the two respective brands showing down. Adam Pearce can still go.”
“That’s a guy who’s a former world champion in NWA. Great pedigree to him. And I know he’s got that twinkle in his eye whenever I speak to him about the possibility of getting back in the ring. [But] leave me out of this. I’m done. Let those two throw down. I’ll commentate!”
