Wade Barrett On Potential Match With Top WWE Star: “The Big Goodbye”
Wade Barrett says he would be tempted to come out of retirement to face this one star.
Before Wade Barrett became a full-time commentator on WWE TV, he was a part of the action in the squared circle.
Barrett wrestled his last match in 2016, which was a tag team title match with Sheamus against Big E and Kofi Kingston of The New Day, a bout that The New Day won.
He works alongside Joe Tessitore and Michael Cole on WWE’s weekly shows and has also lent his voice to the company’s official video game WWE 2K26.
In an interview with UK-based magazine, Metro, Barrett was asked if he would return to the ring, to which the Preston-born British star said that it would only be to face his old friend Drew McIntyre.
Wade Barrett Says A Potential Match With Drew McIntyre Could Be His Big Goodbye
Drew McIntyre is a regular in WWE at the moment and recently had a WWE title run.
Despite this, the 45-year-old Barrett says that a Drew McIntyre match would be a difficult one to turn down.
That would be a difficult one to turn down, I’m not gonna lie.
Barrett admitted that a match with The Scottish Psychopath could physically end him, as he is now past his prime. He went on to say that if the match were to happen, it would be his “big goodbye”.
I think physically, it would destroy me for good, because Drew’s a bit of a beast in that ring, he’s a nasty piece of work when he wants to be.
Back in my day, I could give as good as I got. I don’t know if I could still give as good as I would get from Drew. So, if that one did happen, hard to turn down, but that probably would be the end, the big goodbye.
Elsewhere in the interview, Wade Barrett talked about how he did 125 hours of voiceover for the WWE 2K26 game, and even spoke about his relationship with Michael Cole, calling him the “goat of anything” when it came to commentary, who’s someone he goes to for advice.
If it weren’t for commentary, Barrett says he would be desperate to wrestle again.
