WWE recently released over 20 superstars shortly after WrestleMania 42.

From the main roster, Bo Dallas (Uncle Howdy), Nikki Cross, Dexter Lumis, Joe Gacy, Erick Rowan, Aleister Black, Santos Escobar, Apollo Crews, Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin), Kairi Sane, Zelina Vega, Zoey Stark, and Alba Fyre were released.

Andre Chase (Chase U leader), Dante Chen, Malik Blade, Luca Crusifino, Tyra Mae Steele, Sirena Linton, Tyson DuPont, Tyriek Igwe, Chris Island, Trill London, and Francois Prinsloo were let go from NXT and the developmental brand.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, several of the top names were released because WWE had no creative plans for the talents. As a result, the company decided to let them go as part of efforts to maximize profits.

Who Is Responsible For The Release Of 20+ WWE Superstars?

Meltzer also reported on who was primarily responsible for the decisions. He stated that Triple H was the key figure behind the releases, not TKO executives.

Meltzer said, “Nobody above Levesque is saying who to cut. Maybe [WWE President] Nick Khan, maybe not. Ari Emanuel isn’t sitting there saying we have to fire Zelina [Vega] and Kairi. By and large the decision maker, for good or for bad, here is Paul. It’s like in other years where people blamed this person or that person when the decision was 100 percent Vince [McMahon].”

“There’s not a chance TKO is ordering who to cut. It is possible they’ve got an unofficial salary cap and Levesque as the manager has to keep the number below that. Most likely the salary total would be a Khan decision, and as far as the key in the personnel decision, that’s Levesque although Khan having input and others having input is likely. It’s like Vince would consult with a few people but at the end, it was Vince’s call, not evil Jim Ross or evil Johnny Ace or evil JJ Dillon.”

Fightful Select also weighed in on the situation, noting that Triple H, along with Nick Khan and WWE Talent Relations, were responsible for the mass releases in April 2026.
