WWE News: John Cena Returning to Smackdown on February 28

TJR Wrestling

There’s some breaking news to share tonight because it was announced on WWE Backstage tonight that John Cena will be on the February 28 edition of Smackdown. That episode of Smackdown will take place in Boston, Massachusetts, which is pretty much Cena’s hometown. Cena’s a 16-time WWE Champion that hasn’t appeared on WWE TV since last July.

Here’s more from WWE.com about it:

John Cena will return to SmackDown on Friday, Feb. 28, as Team Blue continues down The Road to WrestleMania.

It was on SmackDown where The Cenation Leader made his dynamic debut nearly 18 years ago, when he channeled “Ruthless Aggression” to challenge WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle in his debut match. Since that fateful night, Cena went on to become WWE’s standard-bearer, earning 16 World Championships and inspiring countless WWE fans to “Never Give Up.”

An icon in the ring and the star of such blockbuster films as “Bumblebee,” “Blockers” and the upcoming “F9: The Fast Saga,” Cena will soon bring his signature “Hustle, Loyalty and Respect” back to SmackDown, as first reported by WWE Backstage on FS1. Whatever this unparalleled Superstar has planned, you won’t want to miss it.

Catch Cena’s return to SmackDown on Friday, Feb. 28, at 8/7 C on FOX.

The February 28th episode of Smackdown is one day after the Super Showdown event in Saudi Arabia where some Smackdown wrestlers may not be able to get back to Boston in time for Smackdown, so WWE is clearly going to try to find ways to fill that episode.

Cena has mentioned that he will be free during WrestleMania weekend and the belief is that he wants to have a match at WrestleMania this year, but right now we don’t know his opponent. Perhaps we’ll learn more about that on Smackdown on February 28.

This will be Cena’s first time on WWE TV since July 22, 2019 at the start of the Raw Reunion episode.

TJR Thoughts: Welcome back, Cena. He has been missed. I think his presence will help Smackdown a lot.
