WWE Legend May Be Gunther’s Next Opponent

Gunther has adopted a new persona as the “Career Killer” after retiring AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble.

He has been bragging about retiring Styles, Goldberg, and John Cena, while displaying an increasingly arrogant, mocking, and degrading attitude toward other WWE stars backstage.

After growing fed up with The Ring General’s stuck-up behavior, Dragon Lee decided to step up to him, and the two have been at odds for several weeks now. Lee even interfered in Gunther’s Elimination Chamber qualifying match, sabotaging his chance to win.

The two eventually met in a singles match on the March 2 episode of WWE Raw, where Gunther picked up the victory by submission after locking Dragon Lee in a sleeper hold.

Gunther’s Next Opponent Might Be Rey Mysterio

Gunther and Dragon Lee’s current rivalry was discussed on a recent episode of the Notsam Wrestling podcast. A fan asked WWE analyst Sam Roberts via email whether the feud is ultimately being used to build toward a larger rivalry involving Rey Mysterio.

Roberts responded in the affirmative, stating that he believes the Dragon Lee–Gunther feud will eventually lead to Mysterio getting involved.

I mean, that’s how I see it. Unless he’s going to retire Dragon Lee, which I feel like Dragon Lee’s got still a lot left in the tank. I feel like, at some point, Rey Mysterio is going to get involved. Yeah, that’s how I’ve kind of seen it going. (From 1:02:07)

According to a recent report from WrestleVotes, Rey Mysterio is one of the opponents WWE is currently considering for Gunther at WrestleMania 42. WWE is also reportedly keeping Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi in mind as potential WrestleMania opponents for the Career Killer.
