WWE Is Allegedly In A Very Bad Business Situation
WWE’s struggle with selling WrestleMania tickets has now become public knowledge.
Over the last year, one of the promotion’s standout problems has been higher ticket pricing. Many fans have accused Triple H and the TKO Group of trying to milk fans of their hard-earned money while putting on substandard shows.
Its inability to sell tickets at the original prices has resulted in the company offering them at discounted rates on more than one occasion.
Additionally, they keep launching ‘Exclusive Experience’ offers in the lead-up to WrestleMania, which include a Cody Rhodes Bus Tour and an Undertaker Suite package, inclusive of two-day suite seating and an in-suite Undertaker appearance.
On its Raw and SmackDown tapings, WWE has also been promoting a “Name on Canvas” opportunity, which was initially exclusive for the March 30 episode of the red brand but is now being offered for both nights of the Show of Shows as well.
WWE Dealing With The Consequences Of Bad Decision-Making
Despite being the world’s No. 1 wrestling promotion, WWE’s reputation is in tatters owing to a few poor decisions.
On the latest episode of The Coach & Bro podcast, Vince Russo called out the promotion’s struggles of selling WrestleMania tickets, which a few years ago sold like hot cakes.
With the problems they’ve had selling tickets for two nights, now, they’re really in a hole because they can’t dial it back now. If all of a sudden next year WrestleMania becomes one night, it’s gonna be because you couldn’t sell out two nights. So, they’ve really put themselves in a very, very bad situation business-wise, where I don’t think they could go back to one night regardless of how many tickets they didn’t sell.
Meanwhile, Jonathan Coachman pointed out that WWE might sell the WrestleMania tickets next year, as it would be held in Saudi Arabia.
I don’t either. And that’s the problem. Now they’ve put themselves in a situation where you can’t go backwards, and you’ve only sold half your tickets. So, now what happens next year? Fans are gonna be like, “Hell, we can wait. Oh, wait. It’s gonna be in Saudi Arabia.” So, they might have a one-year reprieve. And then what are they gonna say? “Well, look, we resold WrestleMania.” Yeah, but not here. Not here, you didn’t. [45:22 onwards]
