WWE Hall Of Famer Praises CM Punk For His Authenticity
CM Punk returned to WWE for his second stint in 2023.
Punk’s first run in the Stamford promotion was marred by controversies, especially in its latter stages, which saw him leave acrimoniously in 2014.
He did not step inside a wrestling ring for another 7 years, instead focusing on other projects, where he starred in movies and even had a brief MMA career.
In 2021, he turned up in WWE’s rival promotion, All Elite Wrestling, during AEW Rampage: The First Dance in his home city of Chicago, Illinois.
There, he became a 2-time World Champion. Like in WWE, he courted controversies in the Jacksonville promotion.
His legitimate backstage altercation with ‘Jungle’ Jack Perry after All In: London in 2023 resulted in the termination of his contract.
CM Punk surprisingly appeared at the 2023 Survivor Series: WarGames PLE after the main event, confirming that he had rejoined WWE.
Since returning, he has remained a babyface and is the current World Heavyweight Champion in his second reign.
CM Punk Earns Praise From Eric Bischoff
Eric Bischoff recently spoke highly about CM Punk and his current run in the WWE, especially seeing how poorly his AEW stint ended.
The WWE Hall of Famer compared both periods while speaking on his 83 Weeks podcast and praised his professionalism and authenticity.
I had a real issue with some of the shit that he did in AEW. Now, let’s fast forward. He’s 100% Pro. I’ve been around just a little bit backstage, and he’s got a positive attitude on the people that I saw him come into contact with.
The 70-year-old also spoke highly about his camaraderie with the audience, stating that he brought authenticity, which made him stand out from other performers in the company.
There is an authenticity to him that just makes him different than everybody else. So I think the world of him, professionally, I think he’s doing a phenomenal job. [H/T: WrestlingNews.co]
