Why WWE Was Forced To Bring Back The Undertaker On NXT

The Undertaker Recalls A Botch That Was

The Undertaker recently appeared on WWE NXT.

The retired wrestling legend currently serves as a mentor on WWE Legends & Future Greats (LFG), a reality show that follows budding wrestlers within the company’s developmental system.

On the July 15 episode of NXT, TNA Champion Trick Williams berated The Undertaker’s LFG team in a backstage segment, prompting the latter to issue a warning.

Aware of the icon’s threat, Williams decided to call him out on the July 22 episode, only to be left laid out with a chokeslam.

While Undertaker has appeared on the brand previously, it left fans to wonder what the reason could be this time around.

Former WWE manager Dutch Mantell, while appearing on the UnSKripted podcast, cited the show’s declining ratings as a possible reason.

Well, I heard that the ratings were so bad for it that they finally busted Undertaker out. And I think what’s that guys name, Trick, for NXT? They brought the Undertaker out and announced it on TV that he is gonna make an appearance on it. [32:10 onwards]

Damian Priest Recalls Being Inspired By The Undertaker

Former World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest recently recalled feeling inspired by The Undertaker.

It was during the early 1990s when The Phenom aligned with Paul Bearer, resulting in a Funeral Parlour segment involving the Ultimate Warrior on WWF Superstars.

Priest appeared on the Busted Open podcast recently and explained about stumbling into the wrestling segment while skipping TV channels while living in Puerto Rico.

The superhero almost got got by the super villain, and immediately I fell in love with the business. I fell in love with the Undertaker character. That’s when I knew it was like, ‘I want to do this with my life.’

Priest is currently involved in a feud with Aleister Black on SmackDown.
