WWE’s Drew McIntyre Happy That AEW And Other Companies Exist
Drew McIntyre is glad that pro wrestling companies like AEW exist.
For the majority of the last 15, former three-time WWE World Champion Drew McIntyre has been known as a WWE guy. However, there was a time in his career when WWE let him go and he became a top star on the independent wrestling scene while also having a great run with TNA Wrestling.
The long-term future of Drew McIntyre will be with WWE since he signed a long-term contract with them earlier this year after a year full of rumors about what could be next for him.
It’s not that common for WWE superstars to mention AEW, TNA, New Japan or other companies when doing interviews, but McIntyre is a different breed who isn’t afraid to speak his mind.
In a TikTok live video, McIntyre mentioned those other non-WWE wrestling companies and explained why he’s happy that they exist because it’s a good thing for the pro wrestling business.
“I’m happy to watch all wrestling, especially when I’m off. When I was out that three months, when one person called me the entire time I was out, that’s the time for me to catch up on everything. IMPACT, AEW, New Japan, the independents. I’m happy to see so many people I’m friends with making a full-time living.
That wasn’t the case when I was fired in 2014 and reinvented what it meant to be a professional wrestler, using social media as I still do to this day at the top level. It’s been going since 2014. To rebrand myself, to see how much the industry grew in those three years, and it led to so many places and so many people making a full-time living. It’s awesome.”
Drew McIntyre Expected To Be A Huge Focus For WWE In 2025
It has been reported by Wrestlevotes Radio that Drew McIntyre is on the cusp of being a “significant main event, upper echelon attraction.” McIntyre is expected to be a “huge focus” for WWE heading into 2025.
During his TikTok life video, Drew McIntyre teased a rivalry with Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, who is somebody Drew worked with a lot with early in their WWE careers.
“I don’t want to give too much away. It’s going to be significant when the time comes… The world is going to be along for the ride. Feelings will be hurt, bodies will be… Cody and I, it’s going to be big when it happens.”
McIntyre picked up a big win over Sami Zayn at Saturday Night’s Main Event and the rivalry continued on Raw when the two men got into a backstage fight.
Drew McIntyre was asked for thoughts on AEW on a TikTok live today.
