2-Time WWE Champion Wasn’t Shocked By Their Release
A former WWE Champion claims not to be losing sleep over their release from the company.
Andre Chase was one of the 20+ talents let go from the Stamford promotion during the post-WrestleMania 42 release. He was a 2-time NXT Tag Team Champion and the leader of the Chase U faction.
While speaking on the Between Two Jobs podcast, Chase revealed that WWE had hoped to bring him on board as a coach on the developmental brand. However, after his impressive showing during one of the tryouts, he was given a television role.
The 37-year-old’s Chase University faction had prominent names as students, including Jacy Jayne, Thea Hail, Uriah Connors, and Ridge Holland.
After the group was disbanded in late 2024, Chase was informed in April 2025 that Chase U had been revived. A year later, Andre Chase was released from his contract.
Andre Chase Not Surprised By His WWE Release
Andre Chase recently appeared for a virtual interview with The Wrestling Classic, where he spoke about his WWE journey and ultimate release.
At one point, he was asked whether the news came as a surprise to him. In response, Chase admitted that he was not surprised because he was stuck in a storyline that never went anywhere. He spoke about his proteges choosing their respective paths, which left him alone and not doing much.
It wasn’t — it didn’t surprise me. I wasn’t surprised, if that makes sense. Sometimes I just wasn’t doing anything at that point in time creatively. Uriah had just left and joined Birthright. Kale was going to do his thing, and then it just kind of left me in limbo. [H/T: Ringside News]
Following the success of Chase U’s initial storylines, its 2025 revival should have been another breakthrough for its members. However, it proved to be anything but that.
It’s no secret that he loved nurturning young talents by taking them under his wing. It makes one think whether he would still be in WWE had he taken on the coach job, which, by his own admission, paid much better than his TV gig.
