The Iron Sheik

Tributes are pouring in from across professional wrestling as the world mourns the loss of The Iron Sheik.

On June 7th, it was reported that WWE Hall of Famer The Iron Sheik had sadly passed away. The news was broken with a lengthy and touching tribute on his official Twitter page, and many from the world of wrestling are also taking to social media to pay their respects.

WWE put out the following statement, sending its condolences to the star’s friends and family:

“WWE is saddened to learn that Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri, known the world over as WWE Hall of Famer The Iron Sheik, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, at age 81. WWE extends its condolences to The Iron Sheik’s family, friends and fans.”

AEW soon followed suit, writing:

“AEW joins the wrestling world in mourning the passing of the Iron Sheik. Our thoughts are with his family, his friends and his fans.”

Fellow WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley posted a touching tribute to the legend, writing the following on Twitter:

“REMEMBERING THE IRON SHEIK

The wrestling world lost a true legend today, with the passing of Khosrow Vaziri, better known to fans across the globe as The Iron Sheik. Although I never got to know The Sheik well, I was fortunate to have been on hand for two of his most iconic matches – his WWE title victory over Bob Backlund at Madison Square Garden on December 26, 1983 and his “Boot Camp Match” with Sgt Slaughter at MSG in August, 1984. I also had the honor of wrestling the iron sheik for the first and only time – on a tour of Dominica in 1987.

Khosrow Vaziri was truly one of a kind.
I send my deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all those who loved him.”

WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H had this to say:

“The legend. An all-time great performer and WWE Hall of Famer who brought his character to life and transcended our business. My condolences to The Iron Sheik’s family, friends and fans.”

Everyone at TJR Wrestling would like to send our best wishes to family and friends of The Iron Sheik during this difficult time.
