Why Ex-WWE Diva Was Banned From Doing Bikini Contests

A former WWE Diva was never allowed to compete in another bikini contest after winning one.

After competing on the independent circuit for a few years, Shelly Martinez (formerly known as Ariel) signed with the Stamford-based company in 2005.

The 46-year-old had a brief run, during which she mostly appeared on ECW, before being released in 2007. Following her departure, Martinez joined TNA for a short stint. Between 2007 and 2017, the former Diva made several appearances on the independent circuit before stepping away from the ring.

Martinez has been reflecting on her life and career on her Too Much Information (TMI) podcast. During a recent episode, she recalled being banned from doing bikini contests after winning one. The California native was told she was not supposed to be winning because she was a heel.

I wore both of these, not together, in WWE. That skirt I wore and then that bikini top. I still have it. I wore it with a bikini when I was in Mexico, and I did the bikini contest, and I won, and they said I can’t do the bikini contest anymore because I’m a heel and I’m not supposed to be winning. Shelly Martinez Refuted Rumors That She Hooked Up With WWE Legend Batista

Ahead of her WWE release, Shelly Martinez clashed with Batista backstage. Nevertheless, rumors suggested she once had a romantic relationship with The Animal.

During an episode of her Too Much Information podcast, Martinez denied the rumors, stating that she had never hooked up with the WWE legend.

Everyone and their mom thought we hooked up, and that’s just like, so not the truth… Kevin and I had a very brother-sister kind of vibe… when he pulls me into him [in the ring], I’m talking sh*t to him… ‘You’re an a**hole’… He never tried to creep out on me. He never tried to be weird… He knew we were there to make money together.
