Why AJ Lee Was Disliked In WWE Locker Room
One wrestling veteran has explained why AJ Lee was not very popular in the WWE locker room.
The wrestling world was abuzz when Becky Lynch screwed CM Punk out of the World Heavyweight Championship at Clash In Paris. Lynch dropped Punk with a low blow that allowed her husband, Seth Rollins, to nail Punk with a Stomp and retain his title.
Becky Lynch came face-to-face with Punk on Raw, where she paintbrushed Punk, seemingly trying to goad him into a fight. But if Punk won’t fight The Man, everyone knows someone who will.
The rumour mill has gone into overdrive that former WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee could be set for a return to WWE, ten years after she left the company. WWE has already apparently spoiled Lee’s return, and while fans are delighted at the prospect, it seems things might be different behind the scenes.
AJ Lee Unpopular In WWE Locker Room
Speaking on his Storytime podcast, wrestling veteran Dutch Mantell – who rejoined WWE in 2013 when AJ Lee was still active – explained that some of the women in WWE during Lee’s first run weren’t fans of hers:
After I heard how much the girls didn’t like her, and I was hearing this straight from the mouths of some of the girls. I said, ‘Why don’t you like that girl? Well, she’s this and this and this.’ She ran her mouth too, and she didn’t back up either. See, most of those girls were bigger than AJ. But she didn’t back down. She didn’t care. ‘If you don’t like me, fine.’ And I think then she met CM Punk, and after she met him, that’s when she left.
AJ Lee and CM Punk were married in the summer of 2014, with Punk famously receiving his leaving papers from WWE on their wedding day. Lee did not leave WWE until the spring of the following year.
