Update On Missing NXT Star As WWE Absence Continues
A missing WWE NXT star isn’t injured.
Back in early September, it was reported that Tony D’Angelo was being discussed in creative for a call-up to the main roster before the end of the year. That report also noted that D’Angelo’s character would be “refined” before that main roster debut.
Given that the star was written off NXT television on July 29, many fans felt that his arrival on Raw or SmackDown could come sooner rather than later. However, the star has remained absent, and news has gone quiet. But it seems there’s no need to panic.
According to a new report from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, D’Angelo isn’t injured and has been taking scheduled time off.
“Regarding the disappearance of Tony D’Angelo, it is not injury related but he asked for time off,”
WWE Could Delay Oba Femi’s Main Roster Switch
Elsewhere in the newsletter, Meltzer revealed that there are still plans for Oba Femi in NXT, despite him losing the NXT Champion at No Mercy. Many had tipped the star to jump up to the main roster after that loss.
The report does come with the caveat that call-ups are being kept very quiet within the company.
“This is one of those things where the answer as far as everyone knows is no, in the sense Femi is still in the plans for NXT going forward.
However, they do swerve people and tell almost nobody about call-ups a lot of the time so people who should know get blindsided. So it’s a no as far as just about anyone knows, but there is no such thing as a 100 percent no.”
This ties into another recent report that suggested WWE is playing NXT call-ups “much closer to the vest” than in the past.
